When trying to up my sass levels, I often find myself going to my favourite cartoon ladies for inspiration. I recognize that cartoons are often exaggerated, and cartoon women often fit the unattainable criteria of a "dream girl", which I disagree with, but I like to gather bits of their attitude and style for myself (or at least try). My favourite female cartoon characters are often smart, independent, sassy, talented, or simply bad-ass.
I know the recent image of Betty Boop is cliche, but I really enjoy watching all of her cartons from the 30's, and learning about her early history. Betty Boop was originally drawn as a dog with lady-like features. To add consumer appeal to her, the artists made her a human girl. Many of her cartoons were banned at the time because of sexual innuendos, drugs, and racism.
Ugh, I hate this wolf. He's so obnoxious. Regardless, Red Hot Riding Hood puts on a marvellous show while looking fabulous!
I often look up to Tina Belcher from Bob's Burger, for sass inspiration. If only I could be as smooth as the charm bomb, herself. Although I relate to Tina, and her butt obsession, and although I wish I could be her, I am definitely more of a Linda, as shown below. And in case you haven't seen Bob's Burgers, I definitely recommend that you start watching it. It's a feminist masterpiece, full of strong and hilarious female characters. Recently, the band, Sleater-Kinney even did an amazing song for the show!
My favourite lady cartoon of all time is Jessica Rabbit. She inspires me to have confidence, and not take shit from anyone (as well as have my seductive temptress ways released). I one day hope to have a dress similar to Jessica's, and of course to be able to conduct myself as confidently and sophisticated as her.
